In 2010, World Bank had referred Hong Lan to conduct a joint study with a mobile wireless technology company in Vietnam.  The study is to apply mobile wireless technology to money transfer in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.  The idea is to use wireless mobile device as a platform to receive money transfer.  This idea rose due to the fact that in the third world counties, banking is not available in the rural areas, especially for the poor living far away from the cities.  However, everyone has a mobile device and this mobile device will be used as a mobile wallet and banking device as well.  Currently the study is ongoing with participation from the banking industries.
